Portulaca is an annual herbaceous plant that grows 10–30 cm tall. It features prostrate or ascending purplish-red stems that are much branched and tufted with hairs at the nodes. Leaves are densely clustered at the branch ends, slender and cylindrical, with long white soft hairs often growing in the leaf axils.
