U2617 Huanghe Crisp is an early-maturing Asian vegetable melon grown for its refreshing cucumber-like young fruits. Vigorous vines produce on the main runner as well as secondary and tertiary side shoots, allowing the plants to crop well without extensive pruning. The elongated fruits grow approximately 8–12 inches long and develop smooth green skin marked by distinctive creamy-white longitudinal stripes. Harvested young, the fruits are non-bitter, exceptionally crisp, and mildly sweet, with refreshing flesh suited to raw eating. Huanghe Crisp is an excellent choice for chilled slices, fresh salads, Chinese-style cold dishes, quick pickles, and garden snacks. Plants perform best in fertile, well-drained soil at moderate temperatures of approximately 59–75°F. Regular harvesting encourages continued fruit production through the season.
