  • Kale-based vegetable produces a thick main shoot followed by multiple side shoots.
  • Main shoots are typically ready approximately 130 days after sowing.
  • Broad blue-green leaves develop a heavily wrinkled, textured surface.
  • Edible stems, tender leaves, and compact flower buds offer multiple kitchen uses.
  • Performs across warm seedling conditions and cool-season shoot production.

  • - U2666 Wrinkled-Leaf Sprouting Kale is a distinctive edible kale selected for substantial central shoots and repeated production of smaller broccoli-style side shoots. Plants develop broad, heavily textured blue-green leaves surrounding thick pale-green stems and clusters of compact flower buds. The main shoot is typically ready approximately 130 days after sowing. Once the central stem is harvested, established plants can continue producing several levels of secondary shoots, extending the harvest when moisture, fertility, and temperature remain favorable.
    - Harvest the stems while the flower buds are compact and before the yellow flowers open. The young stems, tender leaves, and unopened bud clusters can be steamed, stir-fried, roasted, blanched, added to soups, or prepared in the same manner as sprouting broccoli and kale shoots. Plants are adapted to a broad temperature range. Seedlings have demonstrated tolerance to temperatures around 95°F under suitable moisture conditions, while established plants can continue producing in cool weather near but generally above 32°F. The preferred temperature range for shoot development is approximately 32–68°F.
    - This is a long-season crop. Early sowing, steady fertility, consistent moisture, and sufficient growing space are essential for developing vigorous plants before the main shoot begins to form.
