1165 Dorothy's Green is a distinctive American heirloom and midseason indeterminate tomato producing large green-when-ripe beefsteaks weighing approximately 7.1–12.3 oz. Vigorous plants grow approximately 5.9 feet tall and provide a productive, steady harvest of substantial slicing tomatoes. The oblate to flattened fruits develop gently ribbed shoulders and an unusual amber-green exterior washed with rose, red, and coppery blushes as they reach full maturity. Inside, the juicy, meaty flesh creates a striking tricolor display of emerald green, golden chartreuse, and rosy red marbling. Its excellent flavor is sweet, rich, and complex, with balanced acidity and the subtly spicy character prized in the finest green-when-ripe tomatoes. Harvest when the fruits soften slightly and the skin develops a warm amber or pink blush. Provide sturdy staking or caging to support the vigorous vines and heavy fruits. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, tomato platters, salsa, and colorful green tomato sauces.
