146 Red Beauty is a striking midseason indeterminate tomato developed by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms. The vigorous regular-leaf vines produce rounded to slightly flattened beefsteaks weighing approximately 4.2–6.3 oz, with some larger fruits under favorable growing conditions. Plump shoulders and gentle ribbing give the tomatoes an attractive classic beefsteak form. The brilliant red skin is decorated with green vertical striping and dramatic purple to nearly black anthocyanin splashes, especially across the shoulders and other areas exposed to strong sunlight. Inside, the bright red multilocular flesh is dense, meaty, and juicy, delivering a rich, well-balanced, old-fashioned tomato flavor when allowed to ripen fully. Vigorous plants can reach approximately 5.5–6.5 feet tall and provide reliable production from midseason until frost. Support the vines with strong stakes, cages, or trellising and harvest when the red background color is fully developed and the fruit yields slightly to gentle pressure. The fruits hold well on the vine and offer notably good postharvest storage. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, burgers, salads, roasting, sauces, and colorful heirloom-style platters.
