134 Blackberry is a rare Kentucky heirloom tomato preserved and shared by the late John Allen of Cartersville in Garrard County. This mid-to-late-season indeterminate variety produces large, rounded to flattened beefsteaks weighing approximately 8–16 oz. The attractive fruits develop glossy mahogany, cocoa-red, and dusky purple coloring while retaining distinctive dark green to olive-green shoulders. Inside, the thick, meaty flesh displays rich pink, rose-red, and purple tones, sometimes accented by green seed cavities and magenta marbling. The juicy yet substantial texture is especially well suited to thick fresh slices. Its outstanding old-fashioned flavor combines rich sweetness, mild acidity, and the complex savory finish associated with excellent dark-fruited tomatoes. Vigorous regular-leaf vines produce steadily through the season and require strong stakes, cages, or trellising to support the heavy fruits. Maintain consistent soil moisture to encourage even development and reduce cracking. Excellent for tomato sandwiches, burgers, fresh slicing, salads, roasting, sauces, and colorful heirloom platters.
