Variety characteristics:

• W1370 Crisp Sweet Ground-Growing is an early cucumber selected for vigorous vines, generous fruit set and convenient no-trellis cultivation. The vines spread naturally across the soil surface, making this selection well suited to open garden rows, raised beds and other growing spaces where vertical support is unavailable.

The attractive fruits grow to approximately 6.3 inches long and develop a uniform cylindrical shape with short necks. Their light-green skin has a gently textured surface with sparse, small spines and bumps. Harvested young, the cucumbers offer a crisp, juicy bite with a mild, pleasantly sweet flavor.

The strongly female-flowering vines can set cucumbers at numerous nodes under favorable growing conditions. Regular harvesting encourages continued flowering and fruit development. Although no trellis is required, placing straw, landscape fabric or another clean mulch beneath the vines helps keep the cucumbers away from wet soil and reduces surface blemishes.
